ADM to invest in non-GMO soybean meal
Agribusiness giant Archer Daniel Midland (ADM) is to expand capacity to produce non-GMO soybean meal at its Straubing crushing facility in Germany, the company said in a statement Tuesday.
No figures were given on the investment or any change in capacity, but the move is part of a broader strategy to facilitate the expansion of non-GMO soybean production in Europe.
“The decision to invest in the production of non-GMO high-protein soybean meal is a logical step after the successful implementation of non-GMO soybean processing at the site in May 2016,” said Jon Turney, general manager, European soybean crush at ADM.
“The demand for non-GMO soybean meal from European soybeans is steadily growing. With the production of non-GMO high-protein soybean meal, ADM will be able to better meet the needs of its poultry feed customers, as well as the dairy and pig feed markets.”
The production of soybean enhanced by genetic modification is largely banned across Europe, although is heavily reliant on GMO soybean imports.
