Brazil largest bulk exporting port will commence strike action this Wednesday as talks between the Santos Port Administration and its employees on wage increases have failed, the Companhia Docas do Estado de São Paulo (CODESP) said in an emailed note.

The strike action will start at midnight local time for an indefinite period.

“Such a strike may reflect on vessel manoeuvres, once mooring personnel may not provide their services at any of the public piers at Santos port,” Williams Shipping Agency said in an emailed statement.

It added that “private terminals have their own mooring man team and are able to provide services”.

Santos Port is Brazil’s main port for handling corn and soybeans, exporting 10.1 million mt of corn and 33.1 million mt of soybeans in 2018, representing 31.3% and 27.1% of Brazil’s total share, customs data showed.
