Czech Republic sees total grain harvest of over 8 million mt as of September
The Czech Republic expects to see a total grain harvest of just over 8 million mt this year, on par with last year’s harvest and 6.4% above the five-year average, the local statistics office said Friday.
Data as of September 15 suggested the wheat harvest would reach just over 5 million mt, including 4.9 million mt of winter wheat, the country’s biggest grain crop.
Corn was expected to come in 38.9% lower than last year however, at 604,000 mt.
"This year's total cereal harvest, including corn for grain, exceeds the five-year average by six percent. It exceeds 8 million mt and is similar to last year," Radek Matějka, director of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Industry, Construction and Energy Statistics of the CZSO said in a statement.
“Thanks to the expansion of the sown areas, more basic cereals were harvested, on the contrary, there will be less corn.”
The rapeseed harvest was also expected to increase versus last year thanks to higher yields, rising by 12.7% to 1.2 million mt.
Soybean output is expected to come in at 66,000 mt, up 27.9%, and that of sunflowers to 57,000 mt, up 8.9%, on a larger planted area.
