German winter wheat production to fall 3% year-on-year 23.4m mt
Lower planted area will see Germany’s winter wheat production fall 3% from last year despite increasing yields, data from cooperative association Deutscher Raiffeisenverband showed Tuesday.
Despite lower production putting pressure on the German domestic market in the 2017/18 marketing year, an uncompetitive export environment saw winter wheat area pared back 5% on last year to 2.98 million hectares.
Winter wheat yields are forecast to increase 2% on last year, but production is set to come in 3% lower year-on-year at 23.4 million mt.
Total winter barley area has been increased 2% from 2017 to 1.26 million hectares, but with yields dropping 1% total production is set to come in 1% higher than last year at 9.1 million mt.
Durum wheat area has fallen 35% year-on-year to 19,200 hectares, and with yields forecast to decrease 4% total production is set to come in at 106,200 mt.
